A reverse engineering system that receives an input program and restructures the input program into a hierarchically structured program. The system also generates a plurality of tables from the hierarchically structured program, traces a business rule table including at least one business rule from the plurality of tables, and generates documentation from the business rule table and at least one of the plurality of tables generated by the parsing means.
