Storage of a bulk material by build-up longitudinal piles is the most common methods of the mining industry. Building of the longitudinal piles requires long conveyors for stacking and reclaiming. Direction of the conveyors depends on the type of the piled material. Coal as hazardous materials must be stored on such manner that recirculation will be available for any point of pile and at any time. This can be reached by directing of the reclaiming conveyors opposite to stacking that allows delivering the reclaimed material to the feed point (tail) of the stacking conveyor. This way making recirculation process the most economical. In order to reach recirculation feature for more than two piles the conveying system of a coal stockyard requires additional conveyors. In this case the conveying system for recirculation process becomes expensive and complicated. Using of bucket wheel stacker-reclaimer simplifies arrangement, but in terms of the cost and versatility makes system expensive and not always economically justified. In case of using single-boom or twin-boom stackers the recirculation requires additional conveyors and transfer towers. All the above mentioned methods implemented for high volume piles require long and complicated conveying systems. This often requires adding of transfer chutes and diverters/flop gates. Design of the stockyard handling system based on the using of sophisticated multi-way diverters allows reducing of the total length of conveyors and makes system capable to provide the required functions without high capital and operational cost (see description of the following patent).
