Live attenuated Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) vaccines that outperform the PE-6 vaccine in mice aerosol challenged with > 1,000x LD50. Candidates include four furin~-cleavage deletion mutants and one E3 deletion mutant. Each vaccine provided protection in birds against antigenically distinct North and South American strains of EEE. The PE-6 vaccine does not provide protection against South American EEEs. Animals inoculated with each of the vaccines of the invention developed neutralizing antibodies to EEE.
L'invention concerne des vaccins à virus vivants atténués dirigés contre l'encéphalite équine de l'est (EEE) qui surclassent le vaccin PE-6 inoculé par aérosol à des souris soumises à une attaque >1,000x LD50. Les candidats contiennent quatre mutants de délétion du clivage par la furine et un mutant de délétion E3. Chacun de ces vaccins a protégé efficacement les oiseaux contre les infections par des souches nord-américaines et sud-américaines de l'EEE. Il est à noter que le vaccin PE-6 ne protège pas contre les EEE sud-américaines. Les animaux auxquels ont a inoculé chacun des vaccins de l'invention ont développé des anticorps neutralisants contre l'EEE.
