There are described novel compounds which are represented by formula (I) wherein the substituents R1-R6 have the meanings given in claim 1. The compounds of the present invention are useful as dyes and as intermediates and dye moieties in the preparation of compounds, e.g., image dye-providing compounds, which are particularly useful in imaging applications.
