ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A rotary valve for distributing the gases in an internal combustion engine comprises a cylinder having means of being rotated in a synchronized fashion with the crankshaft and having two cavities shaped in it. Each cavity has a main passage to the engine combustion chamber through the disc shaped wall of the cylinder. The cavities are positioned adjacent to each other around the axis of rotation of the cylinder. The first cavity also has a side passage to the intake or exhaust duct through one of the disc shaped sides of the cylinder. The main passage and the side passage of the first cavity are through opposite disc shaped walls of the cylinder.
