At a receiver side, an information rate is detected from the transmission data that has been received, and when carrying out a Viterbi decoding, a rate is estimated by utilizing the characteristics that data are repeated, so that the coded data is Viterbi decoded for only the estimated rate. This restricts an increase in the power consumption of the mobile terminal units that are driven by batteries.
