Abstract Process for the preparation of 6H-dibenzo[c,e][1,2]- oxaphosphorin-6-one of the formula Image (I) in which R1 and R2 are identical or different and are halogen or an alkyl of alkoxy group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms and a and b are identical or different and are 0, 1, 2 or 3, which involves reacting a 6-chloro- (6H)-dibenzo[c,e][1,2]oxaphosphorin of the formula Image (II) in which R1, R2, a and b are as defined above, with water in a molar ration of 1:1 at from 50 to 250°C, in the presence if desired of a solvent, and separating off gaseous hydrogen chloride at the rate at which it is formed.
