By the addition of wollastonite to slag based cements, such as those formed when converting drilling fluids to cementitious materials in oil and gas well applications, the flexural strength of the cementitious material is improved. The method involves forming a pumpable slurry of drilling fluid, blast furnace slag and the fibrous mineral, wollastonite. The slurry is then activated by the addition of such activators as sodium hydroxide and soda ash and is pumped into the well bore to a desired location and is allowed to solidify.

L'addition de wollastonite aux ciments à base de scories, tels que ceux élaborés lors de la conversion des fluides de forage en matériaux cimentaires pour certaines applications de la prospection pétrolière et gazière, améliore la résistance en flexion des matériaux cimentaires. Le procédé consiste à former une boue pompable de fluide de forage, de laitier de haut-fourneau et d'un minéral fibreux, la wollastonite. La boue est ensuite activée par addition d'activateurs tels que de la soude caustique ou de la soude calcinée, avant d'être pompée dans le forage d'un puits, à l'emplacement souhaité, avant de la solidifier.
