The conveyor roller comprises a hollow annular cylindrical member (16) of plastics material of hardness (calculated according to the Shore Hardness Test - ASTM D 22 40-68) of from D-50 to D-150, and thickness of at least 5 mm. A bearing assembly (18) is provided at, or towards, each end of the hollow annularcylindrical member and the bearing assemblies are mounted on a shaft (20). The ends of the hollow annular cylindrical member are stepped (24), such that the thickness of the plastics material at its ends is less than the thickness in the centre. The bearing assembly or a support therefor is stepped (26) in the opposite manner in order to fit snugly in and abut against the step in the hollow annular cylindrical member. The plastics material may conveniently be HDPE, cross-linked HPDE or a mixture of a recycled plastics material and a virgin hard plastics material.
