ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The pharmaceutical composition contains the acidic fibroblast growth factor (aFGF) or physiologically active fragments thereof. Peptides analogues of aFGF, compounds having similar structure or compounds capable of inducing the formation of aFGF in the brain, such as glucose and/or L-amino acids may also be used. The composition is useful for the treatment of senile dementia especially of the ischemic or hypoglycemic types.
