There is disclosed a process for treating sewage or similar organic sludge to produce a pasteurised and dried product comprising the steps of: dividing the sludge into at least one first portion and at least one second portion; drying the first portion so that the first portion has a higher dry solids content than that of the second portion; mixing the first portion and the second portion to produce a mixture having a dry solids content which is intermediate between that of the first and second portions; adding an alkaline admixture to the mixture in order to pasteurise the mixture and thereby produce the product without employing subsequent drying by aeration.

L'invention concerne un procédé de traitement des eaux usées ou de boues organiques similaires destiné à produire un produit pasteurisé et séché. Le procédé consiste à: séparer la boue en au moins une première partie et une seconde partie; sécher la première partie de sorte qu'elle présente une teneur en matière sèche supérieure à celle de la seconde partie; mélanger la première partie et la seconde partie afin de produire un mélange présentant une teneur en matière sèche intermédiaire entre celle de la première partie et celle de la seconde partie; ajouter une admixtion alcaline au mélange afin de pasteuriser ce dernier et produire ainsi le produit sans nécessité d'effectuer un séchage subséquent par aération.
