The invention relates to a novel method for treating or reducing the symptoms of schizophrenia, said method comprising administering to a host in need thereof an effective amount of a compound able to selectively increase the ion flow through KCNQ potassium channels. Furthermore the invention relates to the use of selective KCNQ potassium channel openers for the preparation of a pharmaceutical composition for treating or reducing the symtoms of schizophrenia and related symptoms, disorders and diseases. Furthermore the invention relates to a method of screening for a compound, which is a selective KCNQ potassium channel opener and which is capable of having an anti- psychotic potential.
L'invention a pour objet une nouvelle méthode pour traiter ou réduire les symptômes de schizophrénie, qui consiste à administrer à un hôte la nécessitant une quantité efficace d'un composé capable d'augmenter sélectivement le flux d'ions à travers des canaux potassiques 5 KCNQ. En outre, l'invention concerne l'utilisation d'ouvreurs sélectifs de canaux potassiques KCNQ pour préparer une composition pharmaceutique permettant de traiter ou de réduire les symptômes de la schizophrénie et des symptômes, troubles et maladies apparentés. En outre l'invention concerne une méthode de criblage pour un composé ouvreur sélectif d'un canal potassique KCNQ, capable de posséder un potentiel anti-psychotique.
