The invention relates to a thermal transfer strip for high speed printing, which strip has a conventional carrier on which are applied in the following order: (I) a first thermal transferable layer containing waxes of a melting point of approximately between 70 and 110 ~C and approximately 1 to 22 % by weight of a polymer wax plasticiser of a glass transformation point Tg of from -30 to +70 ~C, and (ii) a second thermal transferable layer containing a coloring agent, a wax-compatible polymer binding agent and approximately 5 to 30 % by weight of wax and/or a wax-like substance, the thermal transferable layer (ii) having a melt enthalpy .DELTA.H of approximately 10 to 80J/g.
