A container for gathering kitchen waste for composting comprises an open top body that has a lid pivotally attached thereon. On one side of the body there is a mounting structure for supporting or suspending the container from a pair of spaced screws carried on a vertical surface such as the inner wall of a kitchen cupboard door. The lid is hinged along that same side, and on the opposite side there is a manually disengageable resilient latch structure which holds the lid in the closed position. An odour removing filter arrangement may be included in the lid.
