An electronic ballast circuit for driving discharge lamps particularly suitable for fluorescent lamps applications. The circuit applies to situations where the DC or the rectified peak AC input voltage is equal or higher than the lamp steady state operating voltage. The circuit includes a buck converter, a boost converter and a full (or half) bridge. The buck converter provides the steady state lamp current requirements. The boost converter provides the start-up lamp requirements. The full (or half) bridge couples the converters output to the lamp in an AC manner.
