The invention relates to a coating composition demonstrating improved adhesion and method for improving adhesion of a coating composition to metal. The coating and method of the invention provide improved adhesion of a coating when coating is applied directly over metal substrates, especially untreated metal substrates such as galvanized steel, unsanded aluminum and unsanded cold- rolled steel. More particularly, the invention provides a composition comprising (I) an effective amount of a first compound having an acid number of from 70 to 120 mg KOH/g, a hydroxyl number of from 200 to 400 mg KOH/g, a number average molecular weight of from 300 to 700, and which is the reaction product of (a) at least one difunctional carboxylic acid, (b) at least one trifunctional polyol, (c) at least one chain stopper, and (d) phosphoric acid, (II) an effective amount of a second compound comprising a carboxy phosphate ester having the formula (I), wherein R is an C5-C40 aliphatic group in which one or more aliphatic carbon atoms are substituted with lateral or terminal - COOR1 groups, wherein R1 is H, metal, ammonium, C1-C6 alkyl, or C6-C10 aryl, M is hydrogen, metal or ammonium and x is a number from 0 to 3, and (III) a compound providing low surface tension and promoting surface wetting of a substrate.
L'invention concerne une composition de revêtement présentant une meilleure adhésion et un procédé permettant d'améliorer l'adhésion d'une composition d'adhésion aux métaux. Le revêtement et le procédé de l'invention fournissent une meilleure adhésion à un revêtement lorsque ce dernier est appliqué directement sur des substrats métalliques, notamment des substrats métalliques non traités tels que l'acier galvanisé, l'aluminium non sablé, et l'acier laminé à froid non sablé. Plus précisément, l'invention se rapporte à une composition contenant (I) une quantité efficace d'un premier composé présentant un indice d'acide compris entre 70 et 120 mg KOH/g, un indice d'hydroxyle compris entre 200 et 400 mg KOH/g, un poids moléculaire moyen compris entre 300 et 700, et qui est le produit de réaction de (a) au moins un acide carboxylique difonctionnel, (b) au moins un polyol trifonctionnel, (c) au moins un élément de terminaison de chaîne, et (d) un acide phosphorique, (II) une quantité efficace d'un second composé contenant un ester de carboxyphosphate représenté par la formule (I), dans laquelle R est un groupe aliphatique C¿5?-C¿40? dans lequel au moins un atome de carbone aliphatique est substitué par des groupes -COOR?1¿ latéraux ou terminaux dans lesquels R?1¿ est H, métal, ammonium, C¿1?-C¿6? alkyl, ou C¿6?-C¿10? aryl, M est hydrogène, métal ou ammonium et x est un chiffre compris entre 0 et 3, et (III) un composé fournissant une tension de surface faible et améliorant le mouillage de surface d'un substrat.
