A filter element includes a filter media having an array of filter media panel members which are oriented at an angle of about 45 ° with respect to the air stream and are spaced so that the upstream edges of the panels overlap the downstream edges. Consequently, the air stream must pass through two panel members before exiting the filter element. The filter element may also include a secondary filter media in the form of a mat disposed over the downstream edges of the panel members.
