A process and apparatus for the treatment of flowable waste in a waste treatment reactor and in particular the treatment of waste water in a bioreactor (20) containing a bed of support particles (24) having an attached biofilm and entrapped microorganisms are described. The process includes the steps of intermittently introducing waste water through a discharge port (34) adjacent a bottom surface (36) of the bed (20) to form a series of plugs of waste water integrated with the microorganisms; and maintaining a quiescent period following each introduction of waste water to promote biological degradation of contaminants.

Description d'un procédé et d'un appareil permettant de traiter des déchets coulants dans un réacteur de traitement des déchets et particulièrement adapté au traitement des eaux usées dans un bioréacteur (20) disposant d'un lit de particules de support (24) qui contient un film bilogique intégré et des micro-organismes piégés. Le procédé consiste à introduire les eaux usées de façon intermittente à travers un orifice de refoulement (34), adjacent à la surface de fond (36) du lit (20), pour former plusieurs tampons d'eaux usées qui contienent des micro-organismes; chaque introduction d'eaux usées est suivie d'une période de quiescence afin de favoriser la biodégradation des contaminants.
