A housing (11) for receiving and retaining a spare length of optical fibre (33) comprises two generally planar support members (12a, 12b) having corresponding peripheral rims (19) which contact one another at the perimeter thereof. Holding means (24, 25, 26, 27) are provided for holding the two support members (12a, 12b) together at a point spaced from the rims thereof. At least one of the support members has sufficient resilience at least at or in the region of the rim (19) thereof to allow it to flex so that an optical fibre (33) can be introduced into or withdrawn from the housing (11) by passing it between contacting rims of the two members.

L'invention concerne un boîtier (11) destiné à recevoir et contenir une longueur de rechange de fibre optique (33) comprenant deux éléments de support généralement plats (12a, 12b) présentant des rainures périphériques (19) qui sont formées par l'assemblage des deux éléments sur le pourtour du boîtier. Des moyens de support (24, 25, 26, 27) sont prévus pour assembler les deux éléments de support (12a, 12b) en un point distant des rainures. Au moins un des éléments de support présente une élasticité suffisante au moins dans une zone de la rainure (19) pour assurer son fléchissement de sorte qu'une fibre optique puisse être introduite dans ou retirée du boîtier (11) après être passée entre des rainures formées par la mise en contact des deux éléments.
