A system for use in preventing a flow of gas from a gas-containing region (120) to an adjacent region (22) and/or for collecting or dispersing gas at the interface between the regions, comprising a composite barrier (10) installed so as to separate the two regions (20, 22), the barrier (10) comprising a gas-impermeable layer (11) and a gas-permeable membrane (12) interconnected so as to define an interspace (16) between them and arranged with the permeable layer (12) facing the region containing gas (20) to be dispersed or collected. A method is also described comprising the steps of connecting an aperture (36) or aperture of the barrier communicating with the interspace (16) thereof to pumping means (37) which, in operation, act to pump gas into or out from the interspace (16) by creating a pressure differential across the permeable membrane such as to cause gas to flow therethrough across a major proportion of its surface area.

Système destiné à empêcher du gaz de circuler d'une zone gazéifère (20) à une zone contiguë (22) et/ou à capter ou disperser du gaz à la jonction des deux zones. L'invention comprend une barrière composite (10) servant à séparer les deux zones (20, 22), qui est constituée d'une couche imperméable au gaz (11) et d'une membrane perméable au gaz (12) reliées entre elles pour délimiter un espacement (16), et qui est disposée de sorte que la couche perméable (12) soit une face de la zone gazéifère (20) à disperser ou à capter. L'invention porte également sur un procédé qui consiste à raccorder une ouverture (36) ou l'ouverture de la barrière donnant sur l'espacement (16) à des moyens de pompage (37) qui, lorsqu'ils sont en fonction, agissent pour pomper du gaz dans ou hors de l'espacement (16) par différence de pression au travers de la membrane perméable afin de forcer le gaz à s'infiltrer à travers une partie importante de sa superficie.
