A skin care composition is provided which preferably comprises a mixture of N- acetylcysteine and L-carnosine in combination with a cosmetic, dermatological or pharmaceutically acceptable carrier therefor. The composition may optionally be provided as a sunscreen formulation, and provides a method for the prevention, amelioration or treatment of pathological conditions of the skin, including, but not limited to, intrinsic or chronological aging, or aging due to sun damage (photoaging), and which conditions are caused by, or exacerbated by, oxidative stress, carbonyl stress, or a combination of both.

L'invention concerne une composition de soins pour la peau qui comprend de préférence un mélange de N-acétylcystéine et de L-carnosine en combinaison avec un vecteur cosmétique, dermatologique ou pharmaceutiquement acceptable. Eventuellement, cette composition peut se présenter sous la forme d'une formulation d'écran solaire. On décrit aussi un procédé de prévention, d'amélioration ou de traitement de pathologie de la peau, y compris mais pas seulement le vieillissement intrinsèque ou chronologique, ou bien le vieillissement par le soleil (photovieillisement), ce type de pathologie étant causé ou aggravé par le stress oxydatif, le stress carbonylé ou une combinaison des deux.
