A tool providing a graphical user interface with underlying intelligence to assist a user in creating mappings between ontologies or between ontologies and database schema. For each individual mapping which a user makes the tool checks that the proposed mapping is consistent with all other proposed mappings made by the user thus far and alerts the user if an inconsistency is detected.
