An optical unit (5a, 5b) comprising a number of optical fibres (2) grouped in a sheath (3a, 3b), and eventually assembled into one or more ribbons inside the sheath. The sheath (3a, 3b), at a temperature of about +20 degrees Celsius, has a Young module of less than 200 MPa and a hardness of less than 90 Shore A units; at a temperature of -40 degrees Celsius, it has a Young module of less than 2,000 MPa. Fibre-optic cable (10, 20) comprising at least one such optical unit (5a, 5b). Application of cable to telecommunications.
