ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION A process for removal of sulfur-containing compounds from fatty materials is disclosed, in which the fatty material is contacted with a silica hydrogel. Use of this adsorptive process prior to hydrogenation improves oil quality and decreases hydrogenation times.
