An expandable multifunctional instrument (10) for creating a space at an obstructed site in the body includes an elongate member (12) having a distal end (20) for being introduced in the body, a proximal end for being disposed externally of the body, and an expandable member (16) for being positioned at the obstructed site. The expandable member (16) is movable at the obstructed site from a non-expanded position to an expanded position to displace anatomical tissue to create a space at the obstructed site for performing various operative procedures. A method of creating a space at an obstructed site includes expanding an expandable member (16) at the obstructed site, and/or introducing fluid under pressure at the obstructed site to create a space where normally no space exists.
L'invention porte sur un instrument dilatable (10) à fonctions multiples servant à créer un espace dans un site corporel obstrué, et comportant un élément allongé (12) dont l'extrémité distale (20) s'introduit dans le corps, et l'extrémité proximale reste en dehors du corps, ainsi qu'un élément dilatable (16) se plaçant dans le site obstrué. L'élément dilatable (16) peut se passer, au niveau du site obstrué, d'un état non dilaté et un état dilaté afin de déplacer les tissus anatomiques et créer au niveau du site obstrué un espace permettant d'accomplir certaines procédures opératoires. L'invention porte également sur un procédé de création d'un espace au niveau d'un site obstrué consistant à dilater un élément dilatable (16) au niveau du site obstrué et/ou à introduire un fluide sous pression au niveau du site obstrué pour créer un espace là où il n'en existe pas normalement.
