The shaft includes a radially outward extending runner (5R), preferably conically tapered. The bearing includes a base member (71), which can include a beam mounted radial bearing (32), and a number of longitudinal beams (73) extending axially away from the base member. Each of the longitudinal beams supports a bearing pad (75) in a cantilever fashion.
