A stator seal ring assembly for a mechanical seal. The stator seal ring assembly includes a stator seal ring disposed within the housing and located around the shaft. A locking band is mounted to the housing and wrapped around the stator seal ring, the locking band engages an outwardly facing cylindrical surface of the stator seal ring to prevent rotation of the stator seal ring during rotation of a rotary seal ring of the mechanical seal.
