ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A tuning apparatus having a voltage controlled oscillator for producing a local oscillating signal, a mixer for converting an input video frequency signal to an intermediate frequency signal with the local oscillating signal, a programmable divider, a reference oscillator for generating a reference signal, a phase comparator for comparing the reference signal with an output signal of the programable divider, and supply its output voltage to the voltage controlled oscillator and a first control circuit for controlling the dividing ratio of the programmable divider. In this case, there are provided: a switching circuit which has a first condition for supplying the local oscillating signal to the programable divider and a second condition for supplying the intermediate frequency signal to the programable divider, and a second control circuit for controlling the switching condition of the switching circuit.
