ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A drive system for a multi-mode reproducing apparatus preferably of the electrostatographic type is disclosed. The drive system is adapted to selectively drive sub-systems of the apparatus at a plurality of speeds. The drive system can be utilized to drive a document feeding apparatus for moving original exposure or to provide relative movement between a document and a viewing system. The apparatus preferably features an automatic conditioning system which resets the drive system to a base output speed after it has finished operation at a speed other than the base speed.
