ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The device includes a block of a plurality of layers of woven silastic capillary tubes secured to a peripheral rigid frame; manifolds are attached to the frame to allow a treating fluid to circulate through the tubes and to allow recuperation of waste fluids for exhaustion; means are also provided to allow circulation of blood transversely and exteriorly of the tubes whereby the diffusion process between the treating fluid and the blood takes place. The device may be used as an artificial lung for thoracic implantation or paracorporeal respiratory supplementation.
