ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An improved process is provided for imparting hydrophobic preper- ties to building materials by applying solutions of a solvent containing or- ganosilicon compounds in an amount of from 0.2 to 25 percent by weight based on the weight of the organosilicon compound to the surface of building mater- ials. The improvement comprises adding to the solutions of organosilicon com- pounds a small amount e.g. from 0.01 to 0.5 percent by weight of fillers hav- ing a surface area of at least 50 m2/gm. The desired properties are achieved more quickly, and a higher degree of water repellency is achieved. Moreover, the process does not require that loose filler residue be removed.
