ABSTRACT A fluid dispenser for mounting in a door of an appliance such as an automatic dishwasher and having an elongated valve member with upper and lower spaced seal cambers and disposed in a cylindrical metering chamber located immediately adjacent a fluid reservoir. A fluid passageway connects the metering chamber with the fluid reservoir enabling a deflector member to transfer a quan- tity of fluid into the metering chamber. A flexible bi- metal element with one end attached to the upper end of the valve member spring biases the valve member toward a posi- tion sealing the metering chamber. Upward deflection of the bimetal element by electrical heating lifts the valve member to an open position permitting a precise quantity of fluid to freely discharge by gravity feed from the metering chamber while permitting atmospheric air to enter through the upper valve seat. A fluted fill plug mounted in an open- ing transversely aligned to the metering chamber allows the fluid discharged from the metering chamber to flow along the fluid to a dispensed location exteriorly of the dispenser, and also shields the lower valve seat from contaminants. The plug is translucent and provides an optical indication of the supply in the fluid reservoir.
