ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An electrical metal ground rod and attached pig tail lead wire are disclosed in which the ground rod has an upper flat end adapted to receive a tubular driving device for driving the lower pointed end of the rod into the ground and the lead wire extends from an area of attachment near the upper end of the rod in the direction of the lower end of the rod. The attached end of the lead wire may be bonded to the side of the ground rod or may be inserted into and bonded to the wall of a hole in the ground rod, the hole extending from an opening below the upper end of the rod inwardly towards the upper end at an angle of less than 45°, preferably 30°, to the longitudinal axis and the adjacent side face of the rod.
