ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This disclosure is concerned with reducing carbon monoxide formation in catalytic heaters and burners employing preferably platinum catalytic surfaces to which hydrocarbon gaseous fuel is diffused, and which are treated with carbonate, acetate, borate, sulphate, nitrate, hydroxide, and chloride salts of certain alkali metals. Preferred alkali metals include Cs, Rb, K and Na. The use of the alkali metal salts promotes uniformity of the burning process which, in turn, appears to be responsible for the reduction in carbon monoxide formation.
