ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A silica-containing material related to zeolites has the composition 0.6 to 1.4 R2O . Al2O3 . over 5 SiO2 . 0 to 40 H2O (where R is a monovalent cation of ? of a cation of valency n) and is characterised inter alia by its X-ray diffraction pattern. It can be made by hydrothermal synthesis in presence of methylated quaternary onium compound. It is useful as a catalyst for hydrocarbon conversion reactions, especially isomerisation of xylanes.
