ABSTRACT A breath analyser is disclosed which has a semi-conductive sensor for measuring the alcohol content of a person's breath, the breath to be analysed being drawn, by a pump, through the sensor from a collector contain- ing a sample of the breath. To calibrate the sensor, there is used a calibrat- ing gas having a known alcohol content, this gas being stored under pressure in a cylinder. The calibrating gas is allowed to pass under pressure through valves to a chamber having a piston therein, so as to fill the chamber with gas. The valves are then switched so as to connect the chamber to the sensor, whereby the calibrating gas is passed through the sensor by the action of a spring on the piston.
