ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for reducing the amount of basic impurities, especially N-heterocyclic compounds, in adiponitrile is disclosed. The process comprises treating adiponitrile with a weak-acid cation exchange resin in the presence of water. The cation exchange resin is used in its hydrogen form. The process is particularly useful in the purification of adiponitrile manu- factured from adipic acid and ammonia.
