Abstract This invention relates to modified azulmic acids containing from 0.5 to 55 per cent by weight of ionic groups of the formula Image (F1) in which R represents hydrogen, ammonium, one equivalent of a protonated or quaternised organic nitrogen base or of a sulphonium cation or one equivalent of a metal cation, and containing from 0.5 to 15 per cent by weight of groups formed by decarboxylation reactions, of the formula Image (F2) and acid addition salts and complex compounds of these modified azulmic acids, and also mixed products of these modified azulmic acids with additives, to several processes for the preparation of these substances and to their use as intermediate products for the synthesis of numerous products.
