ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A fastening device for mounting a spare tire on an automobile roof is shown. The fastening device comprises cable means which are attachable to roof gutters of the automobile to extend over the spare tire. Attaching means and tensioning means are provided on the cable means to couple the cable means to the spare tire and to increase the tension in the cable means so as to mount the spare tire tightly and fixedly on the automobile roof.
