Abstract of the Disclosure Essentially colorless, high molecular weight n are retardant compositions comprised of copolyester prepared from a dicarboxylic acid or a C1 - C4 lower alkyl ester thereof, a glycol and a halogenated diol compound selected from the group consisting of 2,2'-bis [4(.beta.-hydroxyethoxy)-3,5-dibromopbenyl] propane and 2,2'- bis[4(.beta.-hydroxyethoxy]-3,5-dichlorophenyl] propane employing a modified esterification-polycondensation or transesterification-polycondensation reaction process.
