Abstract Individual items of personalized jewelry can be made with the name of the wearer or other personal message set forth in prominently embossed or deeply sunken letters on the jewelry item without expensive tools, dies, molds or fixtures, and preferably in conjunction with the lost wax process. A name or other alpha-numeric message, can be prepared, for example, with a typewriter. Special designs, such as a family coat of arms or an organization symbol, can also be prepared for use with a name or other message. The name, message and design can be produced in either sunken or embossed letters by photo-etching the name or message onto a substrate bearing a photopolymerizable resin. The photopolymerizable resin bearing the name, message and design can be used to form wax patterns bearing the name, message and design by casting from the resin a master die insert bearing the name, message and design for preparation of the wax pattern. Using the lost wax process, the wax pattern is then used to prepare a mold in which the jewelry item will be cast.
