ABSTRACT Pyridoxine and acid addition salts thereof are produced by reacting 4-carboxymethyl-5-substituted oxy-oxazoles with 4,7-dihydro-1,3-dioxepines in the presence of a compound of the formula Image wherein X is oxygen, -NH-, or -NH-NH- and, then, subjecting the resultant compound to hydrolysis. This process offers industrially a more advantageous production of pyridoxine than hitherto known processes.
