A METHOD OF TRANSPORTING LIQUID PITCH CONTAINING COKE AND APPARATUS THEREFOR Abstract of the Disclosure A method is disclosed of transporting liquid pitch containing coke lumps wherein the coke contained in the liquid pitch is pulverized by a specific procedure and the pitch con- taining the thus pulverized coke is then transported. Specific apparatus used for carrying out the method is also disclosed. The specific procedure involves introducing the liquid pitch from a reactor for the thermal cracking of heavy petroleum or the like into a reception vessel, allowing the lumps of coke to settle to some extent, removing some of the pitch from a side of the vessel through a strainer, coarsely grinding the settled lumps between a rotating blade and a perforated plate at the bottom of the vessel, removing some of the pitch and ground lumps through the perforated plate, grinding the removed lumps more finely in a pulverizer, and mixing the finely ground lumps and associated pitch with the pitch removed from the side of the vessel and then finally transporting the resulting mixture normally. In this way, the clogging conventionally produced by the coke lumps during transportation can be avoided.
