Abstract of the Disclosure Process for the recovery of sulphur by a claus-type procedure, wherein the sulphur present is converted to elemental sulphur, by use of a Group VI and/or Group VIII metal catalyst supported on an inorganic carrier together with particular hydrogen sulphide absorption and absorbent regeneration procedures. The process of this invention has the advantage over known pro- cesses of being adapted to process gasses having high contents of carbon dioxide, carbonyl sulphide, and other organic sulphur compounds.
