ABSTRACT Of THE DISCLOSURE A device for evacuating air from a container comprises a closing cover provided to sealingly close an opening of a container and having an opening closed by a valve which opens in response to a relative overpressure in the container. The closing cover further has at its upper surface an annular flange surrounding said opening therein. The device also comprises a separate evacuating pump having a cylindrical suction member which may be sealingly connected to sad closing cover by pressing said cylindrical member over said flange until the end surface of said member engages the part of the closing cover from which said annular flange projects in order to achieve a sealing action in two directions substantially perpendicular to each other and locking said pump against lateral displacement relative to said closing cover.
