ABSTRACT The invention relates to novel 1-pyridinyl-2-(dimethyl- amino) ethenyl lower-alkyl ketones which correspond to the formula Image where R is lower-alkyl and PY is 4-, 3- or 2-pyridinyl optionally substituted by one or two lower-alkyl groups, and to a process for their production by reacting a (pyridinyl) methyl lower-alkyl ketone, Image , with dimethylformamide di- (lower-alkyl) acetal. The new compounds are useful as intermediates for preparing certain cardiotonically-active pyridinones.
