ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An improved method is provided for solving the age-old problem of wood-boring marine organisms. Wooden structures which are exposed to sea water can be protected from shipworm infesta- tion by surrounding the structure with a porous nonwoven fabric. consisting essentially of polypropylene fibers and having an effective pore size of less than 200 microns. The fabric is light-weight and has high tensile and tear strengths and good puncture resistance. The method can be used on new structures or old ones that have already become infested with marine wood- borers.
