ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to the process for the production of copper metallorganic compounds having the formula: Image wherein copper is in the oxidation state +1, R is hydrogen, an alkyl or aryl radical, and R' is an alkyl or aryl radical, which comprises: a) reacting in a stoechiometric proportion monovalent copper salts having the formula Cu1X, wherein X is a monovalent anion selected among halides, C104- and BF4-, with alkaline metal alkoxides in the presence of a mixture of alcohol and nitrile respectively having the formula R'OH and RR'CHCN wherein R' and R have the abovesaid meanings, or b) reacting monovalent copper salts having the formula Cu1X, wherein X is a monovalent anion selected among halides, C104- and BF4-, with al- kaline metal alkoxides in an inert solvent to obtain an intermediate compound, and reacting the so obtained intermediate compound with nitrile. The reactions defined in a) and b) are carried out at a temperature of from 0 to 50°C. The copper metallorganic compounds according to the invention can be employed for carrying out hydro- lysis reaction of nitriles to amides and transformation reactions of olefins to nitriles and dinitriles.
