ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for preparing vinyl esters of carboxylic acids which comprises reacting in the vapor phase a mixture of a lower alkyl carboxylate ester, water, and the corresponding carboxylic acid and alcohol with ethylene and oxygen in the presence of a group VIII noble metal oxidation catalyst at a temperature of 100°C to 200°C. Preferably the lower alkyl carboxylate ester is methyl acetate.
