ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A protective device for a surgically implantable prosthesis having a pair of outwardly directed intramedullary stem portions, includes an elongated, one-piece sleeve defining a passage for receipt of one of said stem portions and insertable within one of the intramedullary canals of the bones adjacent the joint. The sleeve has an end portion extending from the canal and protecting the implant from lacerations or tearing by the edges of the bone.
